About Us
Terry Zwart

Associate of applied Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Hawkeye Institute of Technology, 1991. Having Terry as a resource has allowed Surfacing Solutions to expand and diversify into other areas. Terry is highly motivated, focused and detail oriented. He learns fast and has a diversified work background. Terry’s strength is his knowledge of manufacturing processes and his ability to design manufacturable parts.

Zwart Design, July 1999 – Present, Owner/Modeler.
Develop, design, and model injection molded, vacuum formed, rotational molded and blow molded plastic components. Also, design cast iron and die cast aluminum parts. Takes projects from concept to production by working directly with industrial designers, engineers and suppliers to get the style and the function of the part while maintaining manufacturability. Has experience in tool design for cast iron, prototype plastic and vacuum formed plastic parts.

Liberty Tool of MN, Inc., July 1997 – June 1999, Vice-President/Co-Owner.
Responsible for the original conception of the business including the business plan, cash flow management, equipment acquisition, production, employee hiring and training. Set up all of the business forms and cost accounting system for the business. Daily responsibilities included sales, quoting and project management. Handled all of the CAD requirements.

Lakeland Mold Co., January 1995 – June 1997, Tooling/CAD Engineer.
Responsible for quoting and the coordination of cast aluminum tooling for the Rotational Molding Plastics industry. Set up the original CAD system for quoting, design, and pattern construction based off of customer supplied information. Researched and set up a Laminated Object Manufacturing machine (LOM) and assisted in the training of the operator. Customer interaction and factory guidance were major parts of the position. Designed a variety of plastic parts to be manufactured by rotational molding, blow molding, and injection molding.

American Tool and Engineering Inc., June 1993 - January 1995, Design Engineer.
Applied Pro/Engineer design software to design and manufacture molds, tooling, special machinery & fixtures. Created solid models for visual prototyping, mold design, engineering analysis, CNC machining geometry, and marketing. Applied Pro/Mold for use in the die cast, injection, rotational, thermo-form and blow molding industries. Responsible for applying Camax Camand 3-D surface modeling CAM software to program 3-axis CNC machining centers for the creation of models, prototypes, and various mold cavities. Also used for revising and creating surface geometry from converted IGES data.

Cedar Valley Engineering, March 1992 - June 1993, Engineering Technician.
Incorporated AutoCAD in the design of roadways, utilities & industrial sites. Interfaced with city and state government agencies & independent contractors. Managed a survey crew and supervised building construction.
